Midsummer Siam partners with the Unissol Group for solar-powered tourism and other renewable energy initiatives in Bangladesh

Midsummer’s Asian subsidiary Midsummer Siam has entered into a strategic distribution and partnership agreement with leading Bangladeshi business group Unissol to bring Midsummer's advanced thin-film solar technology to Bangladesh.

The partnership, through Unissol’s renewable energy and sustainability subsidiary Charm BD Ltd., aims to explore renewable energy opportunities across Bangladesh, including sustainable tourism infrastructure, commercial and industrial rooftop solar, government facilities, ports and maritime applications, climate resilience projects, floating and near-water renewable energy solutions, and demonstration and pilot projects in environmentally sensitive areas.

The parties also intend to engage with government agencies, development finance institutions, private investors and international development partners to accelerate the deployment of innovative clean-energy solutions throughout Bangladesh.

Midsummer panels on eco-tourism vessel

The new partnership was marked by the launch of the eco-tourism vessel M.V. Malangi, equipped with Midsummer's lightweight and flexible CIGS thin-film solar panels, reducing dependency on fossil fuel-based onboard power generation. The new vessel is purpose-built for sustainable tourism operations in the waterways of Bangladesh.

An event was held aboard the ship which brought together senior representatives from the Government of Bangladesh, the Embassy of Sweden, the Bangladesh Forest Department, private sector leaders, development partners and environmental experts to discuss practical solutions for climate adaptation, conservation and sustainable development.

Dr. Md. Saimum Parvez, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh on Environment, Forestry and Climate Change Affairs, Prime Minister’s Office:
"Climate resilience and environmental protection are central priorities for Bangladesh. We welcome initiatives that combine renewable energy, sustainable tourism and responsible private sector investment. The partnership between Unissol Group and Midsummer demonstrates how international collaboration can support Bangladesh's sustainable development goals while helping protect valuable ecosystems such as the Sundarbans."

H.E. Nicolas Weeks, Ambassador of Sweden to Bangladesh, commented:
“Swedish technology installed and running — not on paper, but on a vessel heading for one of the world's most climate-vulnerable ecosystems. Midsummer offers something genuinely distinctive: solar solutions that work where conventional technology cannot. Combined with Unissol's local expertise and ability to deliver on the ground, this is a partnership with real reach. Sweden and Bangladesh have worked together for more than 50 years, and this is exactly the kind of collaboration we want to see more of -Swedish innovation and Bangladeshi entrepreneurship, delivering solutions that make a real difference."

Ahmed Ullah, Director, Charm BD of Unissol Group:
"The launch of M.V. Malangi is about much more than a vessel. It is a platform for promoting sustainable tourism, environmental awareness and practical climate solutions. Through our partnership with Midsummer, we are introducing world-class Swedish renewable energy technology to Bangladesh and creating opportunities for broader deployment across tourism, commercial, industrial and public-sector applications. The signing of this partnership marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration aimed at bringing innovative renewable energy solutions to Bangladesh.”

Lars Svensson, Head of Strategic Partnership & Business Development – ASEAN+6 for Midsummer AB said:
“Bangladesh is one of the world's most dynamic and forward-looking economies, and we see tremendous opportunities to support its sustainability ambitions by making Midsummer PV panels available for commercial, industrial and residential interests and more broadly to engaging in Bangladesh upward movement in the ESG and Green Transition Technology value chain. The installation on M.V. Malangi demonstrates how renewable energy can be integrated into maritime, tourism and climate-sensitive environments. We are proud over our distributor and EPC partnership with Unissol Group and Charm BD to support Bangladesh's transition towards a more sustainable and resilient future."

Bangladesh remains one of the countries most exposed to climate-related risks, making investments in renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure and climate adaptation increasingly important. Bangladesh's national development vision includes ambitions for sustainable development, climate resilience, renewable energy deployment and green economic growth.

Midsummer has previously installed a 500 square meter solar roof on a textile factory in Bangladesh. Read more here.
