Swedish solar energy company Midsummer has installed a solar roof on a private residence in Water Mill, The Hamptons, USA. "A great opportunity for us to enter the market for the most exclusive homes in the world", comments Midsummer's CEO.
It is a roof of the model Midsummer SLIM that was recently installed on a newly built private property in Water Mill, New York, USA. The roof is 500 square meters in size, equaling 17 kW. The roof has been delivered to the USA from the factory in Järfälla fully integrated, with the thin solar panels already mounted on the folded sheet metal.
The deal and installation have been done by Midsummer's exclusive area partner Because It's Swedish!, an American supplier of innovative and high quality Swedish products in design and manufacturing and its representative, New York Solar Solutions, which adapted the Midsummer product to meet the needs and requirement of the local market. Because It's Swedish! is one of the dozen players that Midsummer signed letters of intents with at the end of last year.
A second solar roof has also been delivered to the same partner and will soon also be installed at a private residence in The Hamptons. It is for a 400 m2 roof with 16kW effect.
“Being able to sell solar roofs in one of the world's most exclusive residential areas is of course fun and prestigious, and it also has commercial potential,” said Midsummer's CEO Sven Lindström. “Owners of this type of expensive real estate are often very environmentally conscious but do not want to stick thick silicon panels onto their mansions. Here we have an opportunity to become an attractive solution not only for villas but also golf estates, hotels and other buildings that want to be both sustainable and beautiful.”
Midsummer SLIM is a smart combination of thin solar panels and a classic folded metal roof, where the result is a discreet solar roof that looks just like a regular roof. The product is sold as a complete roof replacement. The sheet metal has the same width as the solar panel in order to maximize the installed efficiency without compromising on the discreet design.
The Hamptons are a series of small coastal communities east of New York that have been called "a playground for the rich and famous." Water Mill is located between Southampton and Bridgehampton and has among the most expensive and attractive properties in the country with an average price of over USD 5m. Famous people who own houses in Water Mill include Jennifer Lopez and previously Richard Gere.
