Reduced carbon footprint

In the energy system of the future, the consumer plays the key role. Modern society requires more and more energy, and reducing negative environmental impact requires the use of power from renewable energy sources. That is why individuals and companies must share the responsibility and make use of energy from the sun, which is in fact the world's biggest energy source.

At Midsummer, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint. We therefore use our efficient production methods to contribute to annual reductions in greenhouse gases. We also help our customers reduce their carbon footprint by becoming micro-producers of solar energy.

The environmental work and the reduction of the company's environmental impact are constantly evolving. Every year, we compile the results of our environmental work, both quantitatively and qualitatively, to use as a basis for our new environmental goals for the coming years.

TOWARDS A BETTER WORLD

Climate change

We have a goal of reducing the impact our value has on the climate, in line with Goal 13 in our Global Goals, about taking immediate measures to fight climate change and stay below the target of a 2-degree increase in global temperatures. Our efforts to reduce our impact on the climate also have a number of other positive effects, such as safer food production, better access to water, improved health and a lowered risk of natural disasters in the future.

We are aware that our products still cause greenhouse gas emissions during their life cycle. These emissions are due to the extraction of raw materials, manufacturing, transport, usage and waste management. We have carried out a life cycle analysis of our products and gained a holistic view of their total environmental impact. Based on this information we have identified different strategies and solutions for how this impact can be reduced.

We are contributing to transforming the view of energy systems through our local production of solar cell roofs that are run entirely on fossil-free electricity. We offer our products to customers and commercial business partners who want to take part in this revolution.

Our fleet consists solely of electric and hybrid cars, to reduce the carbon footprint of our transport activities between customer visits. Our ambition is to reduce the use of vehicles that run on fossil fuels in our transport from suppliers and to customers. We also encourage all our employees to use alternative means of transport that are not contributing to fossil fuel emissions.

Use of resources

Strengthening and increasing the lifespan and service life of our products is crucial for conserving already scarce natural resources. The world is facing many challenges linked to the use and extraction of resources where there needs to be implemented design changes and alternative solutions that can contribute to reducing material consumption. The demand for natural resources for energy production will increase, and alternative solutions are needed. To make sure solar cells remain a sustainable solution in the future, Midsummer will be a leading actor in the efforts to reduce the use of resources at every step.

OUR ACTIONS IN THE TOTAL VALUE CHAIN

What is Midsummer doing to counteract the increasing scarcity of global resources?

Midsummer is responsible for resource flows throughout its value chain and helps its customers from the first contact to the final installation. We provide a 10-year product guarantee, as well as an expected 90% peak output after 10 years and 80% after 25 years of use. Despite the long lifespan of our products, they do not require any kind of additional maintenance.  

Silver is one of the most important raw materials in our value chain. Silver has many advantages, being both recyclable and reusable, meaning 90% less environmental impact than with newly extracted silver. Midsummer has also implemented Power Mesh Technology, a new technology that has enabled us to reduce the consumption of silver in our product manufacturing by 75%. We minimize the use of chemicals in the production of our products in accordance with Swedish standards and thereby reduce our impact on air, soil and water. Our use of water for manufacturing is also minimal.

Our solar cells have a long lifespan, so the full life cycle of the product has not yet been reached. To ensure a circular flow of resources even in the final stages, we are currently carrying out preparatory work to implement recycling strategies, with a focus on making it possible to reuse important components for new products.

Vi vill fortsätta bidra till att minska belastningen på jordens förmåga att leverera ekosystemtjänster och inte rubba dess naturliga resilienta system. För oss är det väldigt viktigt att ta tillvara på jordens knappa naturresurser och detta blir vårt bidrag dels genom att minska förbrukandet av icke förnybara resurser och öka användandet av det förnybara.
